Our members are proud of our community and we are involved in a number of projects to help enhance its beauty.

PEC Memorial Hospital Gardens

For many years now a committee of our members has joined the hospital auxillary in providing lovely gardens around the hospital buildings for patients and visitors to enjoy.  The hospital auxillary provides us with a budget and our volunteer members donate their time, expertise and labour.  One of our proudest accomplishments is the Memorial Garden, an enclosed garden with seating where visitors can enjoy peace and comfort. Last spring, we planted the Emergency door entrance. We had a great team and really enjoyed being able to give back to our wonderful Hospital!

Civic Plantings

Annually, our members are encouraged to take on a personal project in the community.  These are our civic plantings which are elegible for a fund of up to $50.00 each from our PEC Horticultural Society budget for materials.  An application is made and once funds are received the applying member is responsible for the planting and maintenance of the chosen site for that year.

Community Greenspace Project

Last year a greenspace project was to convert the vacant lot adjoining Shire Hall into a parkette.  This project aimed to increase and enhance the use of public space through community engagement, partnerships, volunteerism and beautification.  It is anticipated that this parkette will serve many functions in a central location.
  • a public meeting space for community events
  • opportunities for interactive learning
  • a place of serenity & calm that celebrates Picton's beautiful harbour
  • opportunities to enjoy recreation, arts and culture
This project  won the Environmental Awareness Award of Excellence at the Communities in Bloom Conference held last September!  Good Show!!
